Very interesting book describing history of Teutonic castles in Poland from the time of Teuton arrival to Poland in 13^th century till now. You can find here the decsriptions of such Teutonic castles as: Elblag, Frombork, Kwidzyn, Gdansk, Gniew, Golub, Szczytno and many others including, of course, the biggest one: Malbork, the capital of Teutonic State. From the Tomasz Niewodniczanski collection. Published in Wroclaw, Poland 2002. size: Hard cover, 171 pages,12 x 8.5 in. Wonderful collection of the maps of Silesia. There are groups of mapsmade by the particular authors and editors from the 15th century till the 19^th. Here you can find several editions of the map by Sebastian Munster, remaking of the Silesian map by Martin Helwig, maps and their remaking of the Lower Silesia and the main Duchies of the area by Jonas Scultetus, Friedrich Kuchn, Johann David Schleuen, Johann Georg Schreiber, Tobias Conrad Lotter, Franz Johann Joseph von Reilly. Actually this translation is a kind of brief description of the book I would like to present here. It is a beautifully edited depiction of  the way of living  Polish 17c. noblemen used to lead. There is political and military real life as well as its backgounds and entourage shown – on hundreds of high quality coloured photos and pictures (which you find as outstanding indeed). A myth of ‘the Sarmatas’ who were for Polish gentry something like for the French ‘the Galls’, ‘the Scythians’ for the Hungarians, ‘the Goths’ for the Scandinavians. Here the author tries to show the birth of the Sarmatas myth and how it was developing through centuries. Military outfit , weapons, tools which accompanied the nobles in their everyday activities  and place of living are all shown in every detail. 233mpages, hardcover, Polish language. This unique album presents the treasures of the National Library – the small part of the collections this institution could boast, that has survived all the pludering, destructions and stealing by the Nazis and Soviets during WW2. After years of wars, destruction, plunder of many strange armies that have marched through Poland during centuries, time of the partitions of Poland, two world wars, Nazism, Stalinism and Communist Era, the greater part of Polish monuments stopped to exist.
